The Hoagland and Decker families came to Kansas as abolitionists before the Civil War. Active in the Dutch Reform Church, their great-grandfathers moved from New York and New Jersey to settle within 20 miles of each other near Tecumseh, Kansas.

Proud of their joint Dutch heritage, Joe and Norma Hoagland still own and operate the farm started by Levi Decker in 1866 through J&N Ranch, LLC. The farm features alfalfa and native prairie fields while producing silage and hay crops in Kansas.
